The Mid-American Conference (MAC) has postponed all 2020 fall sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference said Saturday, becoming the first league competing at collegiate sport's highest level to cancel its fall season because of COVID-19.

Watchstadium.com (partially owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group) initially published insider reports that the fall football season had been canceled. The conference later officially stated the decision included the postponement of all fall sports.

According to watchstadium.com, sources told the outlet that conference presidents initially met on Thursday to finalize the league's scheduling format, but Northern Illinois president Lisa Freeman indicated NIU would not play this fall because of the health and safety concerns.
